Officers from Northumberland County Council's Trading Standards and Northumbria Police swooped after receiving tip offs about two shops.
Trading Standards officers have swooped on shops in Ashington, seizing more than 10,000 illicit cigarettes and numerous packets of hand rolling tobacco worth £4,000.
The officers employed by Northumberland County Council raided two business premises after receiving tip offs about local shops supplying the seized goods. Specially trained sniffer dogs from Pembrokeshire based B.W.Y Canine were drafted in to help in the search for the cheap black market tobacco, which contains potentially dangerous ingredients and found the concealed stashes.
